This speaks more broadly to two issues:

a) the impotence of the NTRA and;
b) the need also for uniformity in medication
rules.

I speak from first-hand experience: try explaining to an owner why a 1-gram bolus of Bute cost them $15K; not a conversation one wishes to have often.

The whole racing industry needs a Commissioner to set the rules not only for this but for everything else.
Vets have to be more responsibile. Trainers known to drug horses need to be banned from all tracks. Life
at Ten brought up a good example. Why did the jockey get fined. It was not his responsibilty that the horse
seemed off. The jockey ride many horses and how can they know what the trainer injected the animal with?
.They only way to do this is to get the owners to elect the person for Commissioner and a small board to get
this ball rolling.

I read what Bob Baffert said after the race. As you alluded to, he didn’t seemed concerned about the defeat. Sometimes you just get beat.

Nice read. Hansen is a fast horse no doubt and by looking at the race he ran in the BC Juvenile, it’s obvious that he can sustain it. The Derby is just a different race, with so many horses in the field, it’s easy to get buried early. Perhaps it wouldn’t be a bad thing for him to fall in with the pack and have to run out of it. I’m anxious to see him at the Holy Bull Stakes. He’s been damn impressive so far. derbydeals.com
