#8 Close to the Edge (8/1): Most turf sprints seem to have an overabundance of one thing – SPEED. But, this turf sprint is completely the opposite, for a race featuring 8 up and coming turf sprinters there is a lot less speed than you would expect. That should set up for Martin Pedroza, one of the best speed jocks in the country, to take Close to the Edge straight to the front and try to go all the way in this 5 furlong race. Close to the Edge is also proven in turf sprints though he hasn’t raced on the sod in over a year. This race is filled with talented horses, including a horse in Lakerville that has already won at this Del Mar meet and Octane who won his only turf sprint start. It’s a tough field, but Close to the Edge should get a great trip and figure prominently throughout.
