I’ve always thought Exhi had top notch potential and this could be the year he shows us. Last year the son of Maria’s Mon won the Rushaway Stakes, Lexington Stakes, Victoria Park Stakes, Marine Stakes and was second in the West Virginia Derby. He began his 2011 campaign with a win in the Ben Ali at Keeneland. Now he will attempt to annex the Eclipse Stakes at Woodbine.
Exhi is a colt with a lot of early speed. He should be up front in a race where there appear to be no challengers for him early on. The colt boasts a record of 3 wins from 4 starts at the distance with his only defeat coming to elite older horse Successful Dan. Trainer Todd Pletcher is exceptional with horses like Exhi and has him spotted perfectly here. Javier Castellano will ride. Tough to beat him at the ML price of 3/2.
Stunning Stag is the “other” horse in the race. In his 2011 debut he blew past Essence Hit Man in the Vigil Stakes. The seven-year-old gelding brings a two race win streak into the Eclipse as he won the Autumn Stakes over Smart Bid to end 2010. He is a horse that is clearly improving, but I am concerned about the lack of pace. On top of that he hasn’t faced a horse as good as Exhi in a very long time.
So Elite and Don Cavallo look like good shots for the exacta. So Elite fired a first of 99 five furlong bullet in :59 3/5 B May 14. It looks like all systems are go for a colt that was a stakes winner last year. Don Cavallo was second to Baryshnikov at Keeneland last out and that one returned to be second in the Grade 2 Dixie Stakes behind Paddy O’Prado.
The play here is WIN money on Exhi with a 3 over 1,6 exacta. Best of luck and check out our horse betting page for tips on where to play online!
