My name is Ryan Patterson. I am from Cincinnati, OH and I started this website when I was 16 years old. Today I am 23. For that span of time, this website has been a tremendous point of pride and enjoyment for me. It has opened many doors and allowed me to go places and meet people that I probably would not have otherwise. This website is my baby.
After careful thought and consideration I have decided to run GradedStakes.com full time while finishing my senior year at the University of Cincinnati.
My experience in this industry is wide-ranging. I have worked for River Downs, Turfway Park and DerbyWars. I have also done web design and writing/reporting work in racing. I also buy horses for my company NorthStar Thoroughbreds.
GradedStakes.com is not just my baby; it is also a bully pulpit read by industry insiders throughout the world. I get traffic from The Jockey Club, WinStar Farm, Hill ‘N’ Dale Farm, Coolmore, Keeneland, Churchill Downs and numerous other heavy weight organizations.
Knowing who was watching, I watched my mouth. Instead of speaking out about the problems we face as an industry, I stayed silent. Privately, I expressed my desire to see things change. Publicly, I was neutral, which is essentially a vote for the status quo.
For that, I apologize; to myself, to you, to the horses and most of all to the sport of horse racing.
Moving forward the censor is going to be removed. I am going to take a page from the book of Ray Paulick and point out the cheaters that are killing racing. I am going to take a stance on issues like lasix reform. I’m going to call out tracks, farms and people, by name, when they do something good for themselves, but bad for racing as a whole.
I do not expect to single-handedly fix everything that is wrong with racing. However, I do expect to sleep at night with a clean conscious knowing I did what I could.
I am ready to be the greater fool. Watch the video clip above if you don’t understand what that means.
I have neglected this website for nearly a year. Now, it’s time to get back to work. I couldn’t be happier about it and I hope you will continue to visit, comment and interact with me. Time to shake out the cobwebs!
Let’s do this.
