Horse Rankings

2010 Horse of the Year Zenyatta

Older Males

  1. Game On Dude: Wins in the Big Cap and Goodwood were stellar and Classic second puts him over the top.
  2. Tizway: He downed top notch fields in the Met Mile and Whitney. Shame he could stay healthy.
  3. Flat Out: What happened in the Classic? A win there would have put the Jockey Club Gold Cup champ at the top of the hill.
  4. Drosselmeyer: If the Classic winner can add the Clark to his collection he could vault his way to the top,.

Three-Year-Old Colts

  1. Animal Kingdom: I’m so disappointed he couldn’t stay healthy. He was truly a good Kentucky Derby winner.
  2. Caleb’s Posse: Dirt Mile winner is a monster closer around one turn.
  3. Stay Thirsty: Travers winner needs to reach his big potential in 2012.
  4. Ruler On Ice:  Belmont winner fought hard to be third in Classic.

Check our Kentucky Derby contenders page near the top of this page for more information on three-year-old colts.

Three-Year-Old Fillies

  1. Royal Delta: She showed who the boss is in the Ladies Classic.
  2. It’s Tricky: No shame in being second to the top one here. Loved her CCA Oaks win.
  3. Plum Pretty: No match for the top 2 in the Ladies Classic, but Oaks winner was definitely great in her own right.
  4. Zazu: Too bad she missed the Breeders Cup. Loved her win in the Lady’s Secret.

Turf Males

  1. Cape Blanco: Head and shoulders the best. He’s going to make a strong sire.
  2. Acclamation: I’m not wild about him, but I cant deny his accomplishments.
  3. Turallure: Lopresti has done wonder with him and was rewarded with a Woodbine Mile win.
  4. Gio Ponti: Old warrior lost a step or two, but was still good enough to win the Shadwell Mile.

Sprinters

  1. Amazombie: In the end, he got all the cheese.
  2. Giant Ryan: He didn’t show up on Breeders Cup day, but you cant deny his body of work.
  3. Jackson Bend: He found new life at the end of the year.
  4. Euroears: Another who found new life this year.
