Royal Delta could go to Breeders’ Cup Classic

The connections of champion Royal Delta have left open the door for a run at the Breeders’ Cup Classic by cross entering in the race as well as the Ladies Classic on the preceding day. Chances are that she will race in the Ladies Classic, but it’s nice to know that there is at least a chance the filly could face the boys.

On her best day Royal Delta is the best horse in the country; male or female. When she runs like she did in last year’s Ladies Classic or this year’s Beldame Stakes she is virtually untouchable. That’s why I would love to see her face the best of the best.

The Ladies Classic wont be a bad race no matter how you slice it. In fact, I would argue that it might even be a tougher race than the Classic due the presence of horses like My Miss Aurelia, Questing, Awesome Feather and several others.

The biggest thing standing in the way of Royal Delta going to the Classic is the other horses in her trainers barn. Bill Mott already has three bullets in his Breeders’ Cup Classic holster. However, those three horses are flawed contenders.

Jockey Club Gold Cup winner Flat Out cant seem to run a good race outside of New York. To Honor And Serve can be all over the place and seems to run huge or not at all. Ron The Greek is a Grade 1 winner at Santa Anita, but did so in the absence of Game On Dude. Also, his grinding style might not be the best to win the Classic. Royal Delta has more class and speed than all three of those horses.

I’m excited to watch this amazing filly race regardless of where she goes. I’m also glad that owner Ben Leon is going to keep her in training for next year as well. Look for Royal Delta to do her thing and run a huge race regardless of where lands.
