2011 Schuylerville Stakes betting preview

The Schuylerville Stakes at Saratoga is for two-year-old fillies going six furlongs. The most notable winners of this race are Meadow Star and Ashado. Both went on to be multiple Grade 1 winners.

This year’s field is headed by rags to riches success story Flashy Lassie (Holy Bull x Lemon Pop Lassie by Lemon Drop Kid). She rallied from next to last in the Grade 3 Debutante last out at Churchill Downs to win by a length after scoring by nine in a maiden claimer first out. Her $4,000 purchase price as a yearling means she is quite the success story for owner Barry King. Kent Desormeaux rides back for trainer Gary Simms.

The main foes for Flashy Lassie will be Georgie’s Angel (Bellamy Road x Lalka by Dynaformer) and Gypsy Robin (Daaher x Fesity Princess by Indian Charlie). Gypsy Robin debuted by smashing a field at Keeneland for trainer Wes Ward. After that she shipped across the pond to try the Group 2 Queen Mary where she finished seventh of fourteen beaten three and a half lengths.

Georgie’s Angel will race for trainer Todd Pletcher. She broke her maiden first out by six and a quarter lengths at Churchill Downs. She couldn’t have done it any easier than she did. The filly could be any kind and will get the acid test today. Both Georgie’s Angel and Gypsy Robin are speedsters and should gun for the front.

Race 6 (Claiming)

Domonation: Former stakes runner towers over this field on recent form. The gelding gets a much needed class drop today. Should earn his second lifetime win with Rosario up for Sadler.

Air Support ($15.60) seizes Virginia Derby as our top selection

I took some time Friday to discuss the Virginia Derby. My top selection was Air Support. Below is what I had to say about the colt. Click here to read the entire preview.

The horse that interests me the most is Air Support (Smart Strike x Gaze by Danzig) at odds of 6-1. He ran huge to win the Transylvania in his first start of 2011. After that he was third behind Banned in the American Turf  Stakes and then second to Street Game in the Hill Prince. The Shug McGaughey trainee could turn the tables on those horses today because of the extra ground the Virginia Derby offers. I’m not sure McGaughey had him sharp for the Hill Prince, but the colt should be on full tilt this time. The works are strong and I like him as my top pick.

As you may or may not know by now, Air Support made a furious rally in the stretch to win the $600,000 Virginia Derby. He returned $15.60 for a $2 win wager. Banned was second to key a $60 exacta.

I hope you played along with us at Twin Spires. They are currently offering a $100 sign up bonus. If you haven’t signed up yet I recommend doing so ASAP. Then you can play our Saratoga and Del Mar picks. This is a great time of the year for Gradedstakes.com and have been white hot lately. Join in on the action.

Horse racing on Twitter

Twitter is one of the best social media websites on the internet. I’ve been a member there for years. If you’re not signed up and following my tweets yet, then what are you waiting for? Most of my picks this weekend were posted there as I was too busy to do lengthy write ups. Let’s take a look at a few of my comments posted on Twitter via my username @gradedstakes.

I’m going with Flat Out (8-1) in the Suburban. Hopefully I’m not chasing since I picked him in the Foster, but I really do like his chances.

This selection was for the Grade 2 Suburban Handicap. I really liked Flat Out last out in the Stephen Foster where he made a little move up the rail, but didn’t have enough punch. I knew he would be much stronger this time in his third start off the shelf. I was right as Alex Solis guided him to a 6.5 length win. He returned $29.20 for a $2 win wager.

Salvator Mile: Going with Morning Line. Big look to Kensei too.
Kensei ended up winning the Salvator Mile. My reason for liking him was because he hadn’t been two turns in a very long time and some of his better efforts were doing so. Not only that, but his works leading up to the race were lights out. He rallied for a 3/4 length win under jockey Edgar Prado while paying $32.40 for a win bet.
$12 WP on 5 at BEL
This was posted 12 minutes before the Grade 2 Matron at Belmont Park. The filly was named Millionreasonswhy. She broke her maiden coming from off the pace over a sloppy track at Colonial Downs. Throw in a strong pedigree and top jockey John Velazquez and she made an attractive play at just a tick under 7-1. The filly proved me right when she drew clear to a 2 length. I loved that she showed a strong ability to rate. That is imperative in a baby race. Backers including myself got back $15.80 to win and $6.80 to place.
Thanks to these plays I had a spectacular weekend for the second time in a row. Regular followers know that I crushed the Queen’s Plate last week. Stay tuned to my Twitter, Facebook and of course this website for more excellent and free picks. Also, consider signing up with Twin Spires to play the races. I love their contests as well as easy wagering format.
Of course I’m not the only one worth checking out on Twitter. Sid FernandoRay Paulick and Claire Novak are all worth checking out. David Crone offers great insight too as does Chris Hernandez. Don’t take my word for it though. Head over to Twitter and check it out for yourself!

We nailed the exotics as our top pick Inglorious takes the Queen’s Plate!

I didn’t think it would happen, but we actually topped our Metropolitan Mile day where we nailed the huge $378 exacta.

Inglorious ($11) cruised to an easy win at Woodbine as our top pick in the Queen’s Plate. We gave out three horses for the exacta and trifecta. Those horses were Oh Canada, Pender Harbour, and Hippolytus.

In summation my top pick to win the Queen’s Plate is the filly, Inglorious. I love the way she is training and I’ve always thought very highly of the lass. Shots I like for the exotics are Oh Canada, Pender Harbour and Hippolytus. The favorite and Bowman’s Causeway are also deserving of consideration.

As luck would have it Hippolytus got second at odds of 60-1 and Pender Harbour rounded the trifecta out at a price of 15-1. The exacta cost $6 to play and returned a whopping $415.20. Our trifecta play cost $12 and returned a hefty $5,554.50.

Those exotics are nothing compared to the superfecta which could have been had using our picks. The final two horses we mentioned were the favorite Check Your Soul and Bowman’s Causeway. Including them for the superfecta returned $44,750.70. That’s enough to buy a new Cadillac!

Stay tuned to Gradedstakes.com for the best horse racing picks on the internet or anywhere else. My personal haul today was $6,000. I played the race at Twin Spires, the best online horse betting site around. They offer great bonuses like $100 for new players joining through our site. Check them out.

2011 Belmont Stakes picks, selections & betting tips

I’ve always done very well at Belmont Park. I don’t know what exactly it is about the Big Sandy, but my handicapping thrives there. What better proof than when I nailed the $378 exacta in the Metropolitan Mile COLD on Memorial Day? I also had winner Tizway ($8.20) as my top selection.

Take a look at the success we have had leading up to the Belmont Stakes in the three-year-old division:

Peter Pan Stakes: Alternation ($9.40)

Southwest Stakes: Archarcharch ($31)

Florida Derby: Dialed In ($7.80)

Arkansas Derby: Archarcharch ($52.40)

Fountain of Youth Stakes: Soldat ($4.80 with $13.80 Exacta COLD)

Those are the just ones I felt like posting about.

I do very well with top class horses like those that will be racing at Belmont. What better example than when I picked 5 winners in a row at Saratoga last year? The $2 parlay of those 5 races was worth $883. During that same meet I singled Blame in the Whitney to key a $2,564 Pick 4. I plan on doing just as well in the Belmont Stakes. New York racing has treated me well and it will continue to do so on Belmont Stakes day.

This year I plan to provide picks and plays for the following stakes races:

  • Grade 1 Belmont Stakes
  • Grade 1 Just A Game Stakes
  • Grade 1 Acorn Stakes
  • Grade 1 Manhatten Stakes
  • Grade 2 Truth North Stakes
  • Grade 2 Woody Stephens Stakes
  • Grade 2 Brooklyn Handicap (Friday)

The above picks will be in addition to select plays from the card at Belmont Park on Saturday. I plan to focus on Daily Double, Pick 3, Pick 4 and Pick 6 plays in addition to exacta, trifecta and superfecta bets where I see fit to do so. I’ve got big hopes for the Belmont Stakes card. You can join in on the action by clicking the link below! Once your purchase is complete I will send a password to a secure page containing your selections. Don’t miss out. I’ll be on hand via phone or email all day Saturday to help you along if needed.

Those wishing to buy full card selections will also be able to do so!

For those wishing to bet the Belmont online, check out Twin Spires. Signing up through this site will get players a $100 sign up bonus. It is where I will bet betting this weekend!

Belmont Stakes Picks

Tizway cruises to easy Met Mile win as we nail $378 exacta!

The Memorial Day card at Belmont Park was very good to us here at Gradedstakes.com. Our top selection in the Met Mile, Tizway, cruised to an easy 2 3/4 length win while returning $8.20 for a  $2 win bet.

Our second choice in the race, Rodman, finished second at a massive price of 36-1 to set off an exacta that paid $358. I had that one a few times along with a dime superfecta. I’m more happy for our reader, Nick Cantarella, who chimed in to let me know that he used my picks to hit the superfecta for a whopping $7,561.50! Several others also let me know they had it on my advice. Way to go, guys and gals.

Tizway made a ton of sense for me. He clearly loves the Belmont surface as all of his best races have been there and he was third against an arguably better field in the Met Mile last year. Not only that, but his running style suited the pace set up perfectly. I’ve always thought the son of Tiznow had a ton of potential and he finally lived up to it. He scorched the clock with a final time of 1:32.90 which was very close to the stakes record and faster than Quality Road who did it in 1:33.11 last year.

Tizway wasn’t the hard horse to have though. 36-1 shot Rodman was. I’ve watched this horse for most of his career and I have always thought he had a ton of talent. When he won by 5 under a mild hand ride last out I was impressed and the connections showed a ton of confidence by bringing him to the Met. In my mind he was closer to a 12-1 shot, so I was very happy when I saw his odds as they loaded in the gate.

I have always thrived on graded stakes racing. That is where my best horse betting takes place. Give me a 5k beaten claimer and I’m terrible, but if its a Grade 1 race I believe I’m as good as anyone out there. Stay tuned to Gradedstakes.com for more tips on the best racing that horse racing has to offer. 2011 Kentucky Derby looms

It is 3:36 am at the time I started writing this. I should be sleeping. Instead I just finished a marathon handicapping session which included the completion of my 2011 Kentucky Derby Picks sheet. It took 6 hours total, but it will be well worth it when I cash some big exotic tickets on Saturday.

The card difficulty is among the toughest I have ever seen. Despite, this I’m very confident. The more difficult the card the higher the payouts will be. I predict every Pick 4 will be a signer and the Pick 5 will pay in excess of $15,000. I plan on having the Pick 5 as well as a few Pick 4′s along the way. I am cautiously optimistic that the 2011 Kentucky Derby could be my best day of horse betting ever.

The most interesting races for Saturday are the CD, Woodford Reserve Turf Classic and of course the Kentucky Derby. The CD has many horses that can win. I’ve got several big prices on my Pick 4 and 5 ticket. The Woodford Reserve and Kentucky Derby are also difficult races, but I feel I’ve got a good handle of both of them.

Friday’s card will be very good too. I like several big priced horses as my top picks. I’ll be on Twitter most of the day talking about the races so feel free to follow me @gradedstakes and we can discuss the Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby.

Be sure to purchase our selections for the Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby. You will receive them via email. Payment through PayPal is simple and fast. Don’t miss out. Like I said, I believe this could be my greatest day of handicapping yet. You can join me for the ride!

Kentucky Derby Picks

Bombs away on Kentucky Oaks day

Before the Kentucky Derby we will have a great card of racing from Churchill Downs to enjoy on Friday. Headlined by the Kentucky Oaks the card will also feature the Eight Belles Stakes, American Turf Stakes, La Troienne  and Alysheba Stakes among a few others.

We burned the midnight oil here at Gradedstakes.com and spent much of the afternoon today coming up with our selections for the card. The majority of our selections will pay double digit prices if they come through and we expect them to do that. Below is a free sample of our tip sheet for friday.

Race 12 (Maiden Special Weight)

Fantasy of Fight (10-1) The $725k auction purchase has been working strongly leading up to her racing debut. I love that 1:13 six furlong move at Keeneland. She’s a live long shot in a weak field.

Exacta: 3,4/3,4,5

Path: p

Word count: 274 Draft saved at 4:29:49 pm. Last edited by Ryan on May 4, 2011 at 4:28 pm

All three of the Pick 4 plays for Friday have the potential to pay $600+ as does the Pick 5 and Pick 6. I’m so confident in these plays that if one doesn’t pay at least $600 I will provide customers with free selections for the Preakness Stakes.

Don’t miss out on the action at Churchill Downs. This site has given out big time winners like Archarcharch ($54.60) in the Arkansas Derby or Dialed In ($7.80) in the Florida Derby. We are saving our best stuff for the Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby.

The above play has a great shot of winning at 10-1. To get the rest of our picks simply use the drop down menu below to purchase Kentucky Oaks and Derby picks.
