Uncaptured my early choice for 2013 Kentucky Derby

2013 Kentucky Derby Uncaptured

2013 Kentucky Derby Uncaptured

Uncaptured’s Kentucky Jockey Club win solidified him as the strongest challenger to the undefeated Breeders’ Cup winner and Kentucky Derby favorite Shanghai Bobby. The Mark Casse pupil put in a brilliant race and fought back on the rail under Miguel Mena to repel the bid of the inexperienced Frac Daddy.

I don’t get too high on juveniles as I have been burned in the past by horses like War Pass. Sometimes they just dont develop and move on as sophomores.

Even knowing that, I am highly impressed with Uncaptured. He is the complete package.

Horses dont win six of their first seven races at distances ranging from 4 1/2 to 8 1/2 furlongs without having an abundance of talent. Uncaptured has great turn of foot too. He has enough tactical speed to be right on top of the pace or to strike from the middle of the pack. This horse shows acceleration that others horses just don’t have.

Uncaptured is a son of Kentucky Derby runner-up and Haskell Invitational winner Lion Heart. The young stallion has produced several exciting prospects thus far in his young career. Among them are Arkansas Derby winner Line of David and Super Derby champ Bourbon Courage. The bay colt is out of the Arch mare Captivating who has produced only two other foals, one of which is a multiple stakes winner of nearly $400k. Pedigree suggests that as the distances get longer and as he matures with age, Uncaptured will only get better.

If not for a bad trip in the Grey Stakes at Woodbine, Uncaptured would be undefeated. He has found himself in tough spots several times, but has pulled through to win. In his debut, he bumped at the beginning before getting up for a nose victory. He was steadied at the 7/16 pole before taking off for a 5 1/2 length win in the Iroquois Stakes. In the Kentucky Jockey Club he was passed in the stretch by Frac Daddy, but dug down deep and came on again to grab the win. Some horses will fold at the first sign of trouble. Uncaptured not only welcomes it, but he handles it.

“Win” Factor

This colt loves to win races. Not only that, but he already has two good looking triumphs under the Twin Spires at Churchill Downs. That should not be discounted. Churchill Downs has a surface that some horses do not appreciate, but we know that Uncaptured loves the stuff.

It’s a long way to the top if you wanna rock and roll, but Uncaptured is well on his way. He is my early favorite to win the 2013 Kentucky Derby.

The Kentucky Derby is far off into the future at this point and racing action is a bit slow this time of the year. European football isn’t though. Check out Unibet Premier League odds to get the latest wagering info.
