Distances and purses above reflect the officially published 2026 championship conditions; individual editions can adjust with the host track's layout.
How the host rotation works
Unlike the Triple Crown races, the Breeders' Cup moves. Keeneland hosts in 2026 for the fourth time, and Belmont Park is announced for 2027 following its reconstruction. The rotation changes real handicapping variables: track circumference, stretch length, turf course condition, and local weather all shift from one edition to the next.
Individual race guides
Seven of the fourteen championships have their own reference guide, each covering the race's evergreen conditions, how its division fits the two-day program, how horses qualify, and what the current scheduled edition changes.
- Breeders' Cup Classic - 1 1/4 miles on dirt, the meeting's headline race.
- Breeders' Cup Turf - 1 1/2 miles on grass, and the race that most reliably draws Europe.
- Breeders' Cup Sprint - six furlongs on dirt, one turn, and very little margin for error.
- Breeders' Cup Distaff - 1 1/8 miles on dirt for fillies and mares three and older.
- Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf - the grass championship for fillies and mares, at a distance the host track decides.
- Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint - the grass sprint title, run at whatever short trip the host course can lay out.
- Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies - 1 1/16 miles on dirt, the Friday championship for two-year-old fillies.
Two of those guides cover the only championship distances that are not fixed. The Filly & Mare Turf and the Turf Sprint are both set for each host track rather than carried forward, which is why the distances in the table above apply to the 2026 championships at Keeneland and not to the race in general.
